KlusQuest FAQ

Updated 2026-08-06

KlusQuest is an iPhone and iPad app for families with children aged 7 to 18 in which chores earn points, pocket money, real-life promises or screen time: your child ticks a mission off, you approve it with one tap, and earned minutes unlock the apps you chose through Apple Screen Time and lock them again when the time is up.

It is free for one child with nothing held back — all four kinds of reward, the screen-time unlock, the room and family sync across devices. KlusQuest Pro adds more children and photo proof. There are no ads, no loot boxes and no bank link anywhere in the app.

The questions below are the ones parents actually ask before setting this up: what happens without Screen Time, which apps get locked, what the free version leaves out, and what the app knows about a child. If yours is not here, support@klusquest.com reaches a human.

How the earning works

How does a chore turn into a reward?

Your child sees a short mission board on their own screen and ticks a chore off — with a photo as proof, if you like. You approve it with one tap, or send it back with a tip. The reward lands in the right pot straight away and a notification reaches your child’s device. If a mission has been sitting there a while you can send a gentle nudge, and you decide when that happens.

What can a chore pay out?

One of four things, and you choose per chore. Everyday tasks — bed made, table cleared — earn points, because they are simply part of family life. Extra jobs earn pocket money towards a savings goal. Healthy missions earn screen time in the apps you chose. And promises in real life — a film together, an ice cream, a day out — land in their own pot. Splitting the rewards this way is what keeps ordinary family duties from quietly becoming paid work. The pocket money is bookkeeping: a pot counting up towards a goal your child can see, with no bank link and no card product involved, and paying out stays an agreement between the two of you.

What happens on a day my child does nothing?

Nothing at all. There is no penalty for a missed day, no streak to break and no points taken back. What every approval does grow is a room the child builds and furnishes themselves — a buddy, decorations, new levels — and on a bad day the room simply stays as it is. No ads, no loot boxes, and nothing is ever sold to your child inside the app.

Screen time

How does the screen-time reward unlock and re-lock the apps?

Through Apple Screen Time, with two devices in one Family Sharing group. KlusQuest shields the apps you choose and releases them for the play time your child earned, then locks them again when the time is up. The shield is Apple’s own lock screen, and the re-lock is scheduled outside the app — so it still happens if your child force-quits KlusQuest or restarts the device mid-session.

Which apps get locked?

The ones you pick, and only those. Everything you leave out — messages, camera, music, the homework apps, whatever your family treats as ordinary life — stays open all day regardless of the balance. A child with zero minutes has not lost their phone; they have lost the games.

What if I do not want to give an app control over other apps?

Then do not grant Screen Time permission. Everything keeps working in voucher mode: the app tracks the earned minutes and you release the time yourself. Chores, approvals, pots and rewards are identical — the only difference is who says the session has started and the session is over. This is a supported way to run the app, not a broken one.

Can I cap how much gets played in a day, and stop it at bedtime?

Yes, and you set both. The daily maximum caps play no matter how much was earned — 60 minutes by default, adjustable from 15 to 240 in quarter-hour steps. The bedtime cut-off is a window in which a session simply cannot start, running 19:00 to 07:00 by default. Hitting either does not burn the earned minutes: they are still there tomorrow.

Devices, parents and proof

Does it work on iPad, and can my child play on both devices at once?

It runs on iPhone and iPad both, and an iPad can be the child’s own device: the mission board, the room and the parent screens are laid out for the larger screen rather than stretched to fit it, and the screen-time unlock works there the same way it does on a phone. Playing on both at once is the one thing it will not do — the balance belongs to the family rather than to a device, so while a session runs on one device the other says so instead of starting, and no minutes come off the balance there.

How do I get a second device onto the same family?

Settings → Family sync → "Create join code" on the first device, then choose "I have a code" on the second. That is the same flow whether the second device is your co-parent’s phone or your child’s. Changes then appear on both devices almost instantly, so you and your co-parent always see the same thing.

How do I reach the parent area, and what if I forget the PIN?

Tap the key icon at the top right of your child’s mission board and enter the PIN you chose during setup — parent and child have separate screens, and everything you administer sits behind that PIN. Forgotten it? Email support@klusquest.com from the address you want to use for contact and we will safely reset it together.

What is photo proof, and where do those photos go?

It is an optional photo attached to a mission: your child photographs the tidied room or the emptied dishwasher, and the picture shows up in your approval queue. Photo proof is part of Pro. The photos are stored in your own household’s protected storage area, can be opened by your family only, and are deleted along with the family if you ever delete it.

Price, privacy and your data

Is the free version really complete?

For one child, yes, with nothing held back: all four kinds of reward, the screen-time unlock and voucher mode, the room, the approval queue, notifications and family sync across your devices. There is no time limit and no advertising. KlusQuest Pro is what adds more children and photo proof.

What does KlusQuest Pro cost?

Weekly at €1.49 with no free trial, monthly at €2.99 or yearly at €24.99 with a 7-day free trial on both, or €49.99 once for lifetime access. All billing runs through Apple and your App Store account, and the App Store shows the price in your local currency. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the current period ends, in Settings → your name → Subscriptions.

What does the app know about my child?

A nickname, an age band and an avatar — no email address, no real name and nothing else that identifies them. Sign-in is anonymous, so there is no account to create. If you link devices, missions, pots and progress are stored with our processor Supabase in a Frankfurt data centre inside the EU, and every household is technically isolated from every other one. Screen-time data is never analysed, shared or transmitted; it stays on the device.

Are there ads, tracking or analytics?

No ads and no tracking, which is why the app never shows an App Tracking Transparency prompt, and no third-party analytics SDKs. What we do collect is a small number of pseudonymous events — "setup started", "mission approved" — tagged with a randomly generated device ID that is not linked to your household or your name. No content goes with them: no chore names, no nicknames.

How do I delete everything?

Parent area → Settings → Delete family and account. You confirm by typing your child’s name, and it erases the family, every child profile, all missions, wallets and savings goals, the photos in proof storage and the anonymous server account — on the device and on the server, permanently. No longer have the app installed? Email support@klusquest.com and we delete your household within 30 days and confirm by email. An active subscription is separate and is cancelled in Settings → your name → Subscriptions.
